A PUB in Towyn has made a generous donation to the Southport Dance Group Emergency Fund following the tragic events in the town at the end of July.

Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, 18, has been charged with murdering three girls and attempting to murder 10 other people at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on July 29.

Since then, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support those affected by the incident, which has so far raised £140,731.

Sheryl Knapper, who runs The Seagull on Towyn Road, pledged £200 to the cause yesterday (September 26), after the pub raised this money from holding auction and bingo events.

“I think it’s affected everybody; it was really hard-hitting,” said Sheryl, originally from St Helens.

“When you have kids yourself, it hits home. My girls used to be in dance troupes, so it was very close to home, and every little helps.”

Items auctioned included toys and seaside pictures which had previously been donated to The Seagull.

The pub has also raised more than £3,000 for Tŷ Gobaith and Hope House Children's Hospices since Sheryl took on the running of the pub a few years ago.

Sheryl added: “We try and raise money for a few causes which are very close to hearts.

“We have our yearly ‘Christmas in July’ fundraiser for Ty Gobaith and Hope House, featuring entertainment, karaoke, bingo… it raised £1,350 this year, which was amazing.”
