Gareth "Gaz Top" Jones popped into a village pub in Dyserth to relive his rock and roll days this week.

He joined The Alarm's Mike Peters for the ‘Strength’ performance on Monday.

The pair relived The Alarm’s early days touring with U2 when Gareth was The Alarm’s roadie before moving on to become a famous TV Presenter for ITV’s ‘Get Fresh’ and ‘How’.

Gareth, who was raised in Holywell and now lives in Conwy, said: "I've guested on bass for The Alarm for the odd song here and there over the years, which has always been a privilege and a deep pleasure for me, but yesterday was the first time ever that I have been tasked with playing bass on every song from Declaration live on stage.

"Huge thanks to Eddie Macdonald for inviting me to sit in and to Ben Townsend for being the other half of our nascent rhythm section.

"The significance of the fact that the bass I played was one that I was partly responsible for getting it nicked in new York in 1984 wasn't lost on me either.

"Achievement unlocked."

It happened during a week when The Red in Dyserth has been proudly hosting The Alarm Literary Week.

Mike Peters has been performing every night of the week, with Alarm fans coming to the village from as far flung as Seattle and Los Angeles.

It is all ahead of Mike's forthcoming autobiography, LOVE, which will be released on November 1.

Mike has just returned from delivering the opening speech at the World Cancer Congress  in Geneva where he received a standing ovation.

While Mike performs at The Red, he is travelling back and forth to The Christie Hospital in Manchester for tests to prepare him for a  life-saving stem cell transplant.

He has just completed five rounds of R-Chop Chemotherapy at The Christie and has continued to tour throughout his treatment.
