A WARNING has been issued after a man from Rhyl was one of many to receive “scam” text messages about parking fines.
Andrew Johnson has received texts from three different numbers purporting to be the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), all informing him that he has am outstanding parking penalty charge, with a link to click on.
The DVSA said it has been made aware of these messages from “scammers”, and reminded people that it does not, in fact, issue or deal with parking fines.
Messages sent to Andrew read: “Today is the last day to pay your ticket due to your long-term delinquency. If you do not pay your ticket on time, you may be required to pay more in the future and we reserve the right to prosecute you.
“Please enter your license plate in the link after reading the information.
“Please pay a parking penalty charge notice (PCN) issued by a local council.”
A DVSA statement read: “The DVSA is warning that scammers are sending text messages about fake DVSA parking penalty charges.
“The text message warns people that they have a ‘parking penalty charge’, and that if they do not pay on time, that they might be banned from driving, have to pay more, or be taken to court.
“You can report scam text messages to the National Cyber Security Centre. You do not need to contact DVSA if you have received the text message.”
