A fundraiser has completed a 177-mile run in five days.

Ryan Bateman, from Dyserth, finished the Offa's Dyke path on Sunday, starting in Chepstow on Wednesday morning.

He was met with cheers in Prestatyn after enduring an ankle injury, foot pain, and extreme tiredness. Ryan's efforts are in aid of the North East Wales Branch of the MND Association, following his mum Sarah's motor neurone disease diagnosis last year.

He is determined to support the organisation, which helps people with the disease across Wales. Ryan thanked his employer, Thorncliffe Building Supplies, particularly owner Tim Harper, for giving him time off to recover.

His fundraising has now surpassed £11,000. To donate, visit justgiving.com/page/ryan-bateman-1716636820538.

Mr Bateman said: "I’m so grateful to everyone for their support, it really has been incredible to see the amount being raised increasing.

"The run didn’t go entirely as I had hoped. After about five hours I could feel pain in the ligaments in my left ankle, so I had to run on the flats wherever possible to ease it. As a result, the days were longer, so I was running for 14 hours at a time rather than 12. I really struggled with the pain.

"Towards the end of the challenge, I was joined by colleagues and friends who ran with me and on Saturday I was in really great spirits. Arriving in Prestatyn on Sunday was very emotional.

"They have been brilliant. Two people from work joined me and they have been so supportive of everything I have been doing. I’m so grateful for their support.

"It is going to take me a while to recover. My ankles and feet are swollen, although they are improving now and I’m still extremely tired. It all seems like a dream now, I can’t believe I did it!"
