A Samaritans branch has raised nearly £1,000 after Sarah Millican's recent concert.

Rhyl Samaritans collected the funds from theatre-goers at Venue Cymru following the comedian's show.

The money will help keep the branch running, providing essential emotional support to people in distress.

The Samaritans offer free phone support to individuals who are isolated, distressed or feel they have no one to turn to.

Their services are particularly vital for callers dealing with complex mental health issues.

A separate phone line is available for those who prefer to speak to a Welsh-speaking volunteer.

Beyond phone support, Rhyl Samaritans conduct outreach across North-East Wales, engaging with communities at shows, schools, and colleges.

They also visit Ysbyty Glan Clwyd weekly to talk with patients, families, and staff.

Recently, they spent a week at the International Eisteddfod and will be present at the Flint and Denbigh Show.

Despite some support from their head office for building maintenance, the branch largely relies on its fundraising efforts to cover day-to-day costs.

These include expenses for broadband, phones, utilities, and various other costs related to publicity, outreach, training, and recruitment.

The branch, which has no paid workers, needs approximately £20,000 annually to stay open.

Rhyl Samaritans are actively seeking new recruits and welcome interest from potential volunteers.

Anyone interested in joining can contact them via email at rhyl.branchrecruitment@samaritans.org.

The Samaritans' mission is to reduce the number of suicides by offering confidential emotional support to those in need.
