THE PRODUCERS of a drama series partly filmed in Rhyl were asked by the council and police "not to portray the town in a negative way".

Filming of S4C's upcoming teen drama Hafiach, produced by Vox Pictures, has taken place in Rhyl, Prestatyn and Towyn this summer.

Crews were spotted filming by Les & Rita’s Fish Bar on Wellington Road, Rhyl in June.

But before filming began, Vox Pictures were "kindly asked" by the council and police "not to portray Rhyl in a negative way", S4C said.

The Welsh language channel did say the town "comes across extremely positively in the series and looks amazing".

A spokesperson for S4C said: "At the start the production company were kindly asked by the council and local police not to portray Rhyl in a negative way.

"Llyr, the producer of the series, has confirmed that Rhyl comes across extremely positively in the series and looks amazing."

Described as a "gripping teen thriller with a twist", Hafiach starts on the day of the last GCSE exam for a group of friends, who later start their “summer of freedom” with a beach party.

But during the party, the body of a 12-year-old boy is found on the beach.

As police begin a murder investigation, the gang are drawn into the process, where shocking revelations are made.

The production has brought 11 new job opportunities to the area for local traineeships.

Rhyl Town Council and Denbighshire County Council were approached for comment.
