A FORMER older persons’ accommodation apartment complex in Rhyl could be demolished to make way for the development of new homes.
The former older persons’ apartments at Maes Emlyn would be demolished to make way for 35 homes, with Denbighshire County Council set to submit a planning application.
The new homes would be a mixture of one- and two-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom houses.
Maes Emlyn is currently made up of 59 flats, but the site has been vacant since August 31, 2021.
The redevelopment project would also see the creation of public open spaces and both informal and equipped play areas.
Denbighshire County Council said of the plans: “The former older persons’ apartments at Maes Emlyn in Rhyl have been empty for some time.
“We are now at a stage where we are able to inform you of our plans to submit a Planning application for a development on the site.

“We know from the waiting lists for housing in Denbighshire that there is a need for apartments and family homes in Rhyl.
“We believe the former older persons’ accommodation at Maes Emlyn would make a suitable location for such a development.”
Due to the development providing more than nine homes, the local authority has been required to carry out a consultation on the pre-application plans.
