A NINE-year-old boy from Rhyl completed two hikes of Switzerland, each measuring more than 3,000m in altitude, with his mother last week.
Boris Litwin-Kurlandt climbed to the Hörnli hut (base camp for the Matterhorn mountains), and then completed the Oberrothorn hike, with mum Monika Kurlandt, 44, between August 26 and 28.
It follows Monika, a swimming teacher at Rhyl Leisure Centre, achieving a goal of her own last year by hiking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
Despite the warm weather, she said there was “no stopping” Boris in Switzerland, and hailed his “massive achievement”.

Monika said: “The hike to Hörnli is quite a hard, dangerous one; you need to use ropes and ladders, and it’s about 3,200m high.
“I’m proud of him for managing to do it, and then the Oberrothorn hike, which is 3,400m high.
“He’s got good feet on the rocks, so was just going at the same pace throughout. We always hike here in Wales, and also in the lake district. Even at high altitude, he did really, really well.
“You just want the best for your kids, and try and show them the interests that you have, so I just want to give that experience to my kids.
“Next stop is probably going to be Nepal again!”
“The weather was nice and warm, with no wind, but Boris was fantastic, even at high altitude. He’s full of energy.”
