A FIRE at a church yard in Meliden is believed to have been started deliberately.
Yesterday evening (August 25), a tree stump at St Melyd’s Church caught fire – while North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the damage did not extend further, it said its cause was “deliberate ignition”.

Gerry Frobisher took the attached photographs of the fire, and said: “There was one tender in attendance, with several spotlights on the scene.
“I noticed the incident at about 8.45pm from my front window when I saw a blue light.
“The fire officers were hosing the area and pulling undergrowth away from the seat of the fire. Last night, I could not see exactly what was on fire, but it looked like undergrowth.
“This morning, I could see it was contained to an old rotten tree trunk. It is still smoking this morning. I could see no damage to any of the nearby old gravestones.”
