A new private mental health hospital in Rhyl could be ready to open by the end of October.
The 62-bed Seren Gobaith facility is being built on the site formerly known as Ty Melin on Brighton Road. It will be a privately registered independent hospital providing 24-hour care, with nursing for 62 adults with mental health diagnoses, providing services to both men and women.
Wynne Construction is building the new facility to create a modern comfortable homely atmosphere with individual en-suite facilities in all the bedrooms.
The hospital will employ around 150 people. It is working with local suppliers and two veterans charities, Change Step and Woody's Lodge, to offer employment opportunities to local military veterans - providing the opportunity for them to apply their skills and ability to manage pressure situations to embark on a new career path.
John Bromfield from the Seren Gobaith Executive Team, said: "The hospital will bring 150 jobs to North Wales. Currently many Welsh patients are receiving mental health care within hospitals in England, at cost to the Welsh taxpayer.
"We aim to bring these people home to Wales to be closer to their families, communities and culture.
"Through our employment scheme with the Welsh veteran’s charities Change Step and Woody’s Lodge, we will provide jobs for our veterans. Many have important transferable skills and the best way we can acknowledge their service to our nation is by helping them use those skills to have a positive impact.
"We want Seren Gobaith to become a beacon of hope for positive mental health and well-being."
Member of the Senedd for Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies MS, recently visited the site to see for himself what progress had been made.
"It was a pleasure to see the progress on the construction of Seren Gobaith," he said.
"We are currently in the midst of a mental health crisis. With NHS services in North Wales overburdened, the opening of this new facility can’t come soon enough.
"I was encouraged to learn about the broad range services they will provide with modern facilities catered to the patient’s needs, and the significant employment and economic benefits they will bring to the area."
