BBC Wales came to Rhyl’s High Street yesterday (August 22) to film an episode of a new series starring TV chef Chris “Flamebaster” Roberts.

Chris was in Rhyl to make his special take on a Turkish kebab, and was also filmed leading at a class at Use Your Loaf community bakery on Abbey Street.

At the bakery, he made dough for flatbreads, before leading its trainees into the town centre to prepare and cook the kebabs together on a wood-fired oven.

They were then served to passers-by on High Street, where they went down a treat.

Alex Bowen, project manager of Use Your Loaf, said: “We had such a great time, and I think our trainees got a huge amount from the experience.

“(Trainee) Amy even baked him a Belgian bun, which he devoured as dessert! A big thanks to Chris and the BBC Wales team, and of course, to our trainees for taking part.

“It was a lovely day, and a good experience. The trainees found it amazing; they were in their element, learning off him and cooking in the town centre.

“We’ve been on TV to promote when we opened, but I’ve not done something quite like that before!

“Its good to show something positive in Rhyl, too - we had loads of people watching, and trying the tasters that he made, as well.”

Alex said that he believes the series, which will be in English, is likely to start airing at the end of January 2025, and that an entire episode of the series will be dedicated to Chris’ visit to Rhyl.
