Man's death in Prestatyn fire 'not being treated as suspicious'
He was formally identified by a hospital wristband and photo identification.
The inquest opening heard that, at 2.41am, North Wales Police received a report from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service regarding an ongoing fire at 12 High Street.
Kate Robertson, assistant coroner for North Wales (East and Central), said: “It seems there were members of the public passing by when they noticed a fire at the property.
“North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were contacted. Sadly, Mr Handy was found deceased within the property.”
A post-mortem examination was undertaken on August 14, and a provisional cause of death for Mr Handy has been deferred pending further investigations.
Ms Robertson adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
*Two men were arrested in connection with the fire, but were later released without charge, and are no longer under police investigation.
Chief Superintendent Simon Williams said last week: "Following a post-mortem examination and further CCTV enquires, this incident is not being treated as suspicious, and we are not seeking to speak to anyone else in connection with it.”
