A SWEET shop in Prestatyn which was forced to temporarily close after suffering fire damage earlier this week will open a pop-up store today (August 16).

Granny Pats Tuck Shop, at 12 High Street, said on August 12 that it would be shut for the foreseeable future following a fire early that morning.

A man died in the blaze, while two men who were arrested in connection with the incident have since been released without charge and are no longer under police investigation.

Yesterday, Granny Pats confirmed that, from 11am today, its daily pop-up shop will open at the side of its main premises.

On August 12, Granny Pats Tuck Shop owner, Matthew Mercer, said his store was “not the cause of the fire”, but was left “absolutely decimated” as a result of it.

North Wales Police Chief Superintendent Simon Williams said yesterday: "We have been working closely with our colleagues at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire.

"However, two men arrested in connection with the incident have been eliminated from our enquiries and released without charge.

"Following a post-mortem examination and further CCTV enquires, this incident is not being treated as suspicious and we are not seeking to speak to anyone else in connection with it.”

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said on August 12: "A man has died after a fire at a commercial property in Prestatyn this morning.

"We responded to reports of a fire on the High Street, Prestatyn at 2.35am. We are working with North Wales Police to determine the cause of the fire.

"Our condolences go out to the man’s family."
