A SWEET shop on Prestatyn’s High Street has said it will be closed for the foreseeable future due to the amount of damage it suffered following a fire early this morning (August 12).

Granny Pats Tuck Shop owner, Matthew Mercer, said his store was “not the cause of the fire”, but was left “absolutely decimated”.

As a result of the fire, one man has died, while two others have been arrested in connection with it.

A statement from Granny Pats read: “Granny Pats Tuck Shop Prestatyn  has been absolutely wiped out with the smoke, water and fire damage from the fire in the taxi office above, where the fire started.

“We won't be opening up any time soon.

“We will, however, have a pop-up shop opening outside where the shop is, in the trailer, at the weekend once the fire and police have finished their investigations.

“We hope that the community will support us and come down to buy some sweets, and continue to support Roberts Taxis during this devastating time.

“Our hearts also go out to the family of the man who lost his life in the blaze.”

Earlier today, a North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A man has died after a fire at a commercial property in Prestatyn this morning.

"We responded to reports of a fire on the High Street, Prestatyn at 2.35am. We are working with North Wales Police to determine the cause of the fire.

"Our condolences go out to the man’s family."
