Café by Rhyl railway station re-opens under new management

Based inside the Costigan’s Coworking Space building, on Bodfor Street, it has been taken on by Dan Jones, owner of Prestatyn’s Tu Mundo café.

The Rhyl café will be rebranded as “Tu Mundo Rhyl”, and is the brand’s third site, along with its premises in Prestatyn and Meliden.

It will open fully on Monday (August 12) following this week’s “soft opening”.

Dan said: “We’ve just done a soft opening this week to iron out any snags.

“Considering we didn’t tell anyone we were opening, it’s been very nice; there’s been a nice, steady flow of people through, and the comments have been great, so we can’t complain at all.

“We’re still missing some furniture and bits and pieces, but by the end of week, that should be in place.”

From Monday, Tu Mundo Rhyl will be open seven days a week, from 8.30am until 4pm.

Depending on footfall, though, Dan said it may start opening earlier to cater for more commuters.

Costigan’s Coworking is still running as usual from within the same unit, meanwhile.

Dan added: “We’re always looking to expand and grow the business, and from experience, the train and bus station in Rhyl is under-served, so it really fitted in with us.

“It’s a smaller version of what we serve in Prestatyn - a more ‘grab and go’ style of what we do. So, if you’re jumping on or off the train or bus, you’ve got somewhere to come.

“The folded roast dinner has been popular so far, that’s in all the Tu Mundos. It’s essentially a roast dinner in a wrap – they’ve been flying out.

“All of the cakes from our in-house baker, Darren, will be coming over, as well, and our ‘Almost Famous Rocky Roads’, which don’t stay in the counter very long!”

Tu Mundo first opened in Prestatyn in May 2021, and then opened up a second site at Y Shed, Meliden the following year.
