A TOWN councillor in Prestatyn has resigned from his role, citing his age and health as the reasons for his decision.

Bob Murray, 76, represented the Prestatyn Central ward on the town council, and twice served as mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden.

He resigned from the town council in late July, having served on it for 12 years.

The Labour councillor held the position of mayor during the 2023-24 civic year.

While he said he chose to resign “due to my age and my health”, he added that it was “not an easy decision to make”.

Mr Murray said: “I have not been feeling at my best, and have had tests because I had been feeling very dizzy, and my short-term memory had become quite bad.

“I felt it was time to give myself some ‘me time’.

“I will miss the staff at Prestatyn Town Council; they are simply the best.

“I have been lucky to have been the mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden twice, and I will miss the banter and my fellow councillors.

“I wish the council all the best for the future.”

The Prestatyn Central ward is represented by three other town councillors.

In 2019, Mr Murray was cleared of any wrongdoing following a Public Services Ombudsman for Wales investigation into a racially charged Facebook comment he had been alleged to have made.
