A COUPLE of people were taken to hospital following an incident at Prestatyn Central Beach on Friday (August 2).

At 7.15pm that evening, reports were received by emergency services concerning a swimmer getting into difficulty in the area of the Nova leisure centre.

An ambulance transferred two casualties to hospital.

Attending the incident were Rhyl’s Coastguard and RNLI crews, Wales Air Ambulance, the Welsh Ambulance Service, North Wales Police, and Flint’s Coastguard team.

Rhyl Coastguard said: “We wish them a speedy recovery.

“If you plan on visiting the beach this summer, always try to choose a lifeguarded one (remember, they have operating hours).

“Swim between the red and yellow flags, check the tide times and weather forecast, research where you are swimming so you know the hazards, always carry a means of calling for help.

“Acclimatise to cold water slowly and enter gradually to reduce the risk of cold water shock. Swim parallel to shore rather than straight out, as cold water and currents can tire you quickly, making it difficult to return to shore.

“Consider the use of a tow float. Most of all, don't swim alone or under the influence of alcohol, medication or drugs. If you see someone in trouble, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
