A MAN has been spared jail after launching a shocking attack on two others at a busy caravan park club.

Alan Long, of Boundary Road in Bidston, appeared at Mold Crown Court for sentence on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old had previously admitted two offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Richard Edwards, prosecuting told the court that on October 29, 2022, the victims - Hayley Williams and Carl Russell - were at the clubhouse at the Golden Gate Caravan Park in Towyn with friends and family.

The club was busy and there were numerous other people, including children, at the venue.

Long was also present, and he began to "gently shoulder barge" Ms Williams on the dancefloor, before punching Mr Russell in the face.

Fearing she was about to be assaulted too, Ms Williams struck the defendant, who responded by punching her in the face as well.

Mr Russell was left with a three-quarter inch laceration to his cheek, a black eye and a cut in his mouth.

Ms Williams was left with a cut lip, which required six stitches and left a scar.

Oliver Saddington, defending, told the court: "Mr Long felt there was some provocation - I accept that assertion seems odd when looking at the footage.

"What isn't captured on the CCTV is that he did get some abuse from others at the club that evening, particularly regarding his accent.

"But in the cold hard light of day, he accepts two wrongs don't make a right.

"He's not an inherently violent individual and wants this to be the last time he appears before a court.

"Mr Long apologises through me to the complainants."

Judge Timothy Petts told the defendant there was "no valid reason" for the defendant behaving in the way he had.

He handed down an 18 month custodial sentence but suspended it for 18 months.

The defendant must undertake a thinking skills programme, as well as 20 days of rehabilitation activity, 150 hours of unpaid work and a three-month alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement.

The defendant must pay £100 in compensation to each victim.
