THE opening of a new event space in a park in Abergele was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a “fun day” yesterday (July 21).

Abergele Town Council organised the event, at Pentre Mawr Park, in partnership with Events Conwy.

Its new event space will be declared officially open following a ribbon-cutting by deputy mayor of Abergele, Cllr Tracey Brennan, at 12pm.

The day included live music and dance performances, entertainment in the event space, a dog show, and children’s rides.

As part of the Green Gele project, the new event space was funded by Welsh Government’s ENRaW 2 project, in partnership with Conwy County Borough Council.

Abergele Town Council said: “Many thanks to everyone involved in yesterday's community event in Pentre Mawr Park.

“A big shoutout to Events Conwy for all their hard work in pulling it all together - the weather the day before had everyone on tenterhooks but we were lucky!

“Big ‘thank-yous’ also to Combat Wombat Inc for the photography, and Abergele TV for coming along to lend their skills, as well as to all the performers and stall holders.

“But most of all, many thanks to the approximately 3,000 community members who came out in support of the launch of the new event space and all the visitors from neighbouring counties, and even the south of England.

“All of the children were so lovely, and it was a genuine pleasure to see you having fun in the park, and to enjoy a spot of colouring with you.”

A spokesperson for the town council’s events sub-committee added: “We feel lucky to have such a fantastic open space right on our doorstep, and to be able to enjoy it together.”
