A COUPLE of directors at a law firm in Rhyl are making final preparations for their attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Ron Davison, managing director of Gamlins Law, and fellow director Dafydd Roberts fly out to Tanzania at the start of September.

Along with eight other people, they will aim to scale the 5895m (19,340ft) mountain within seven days.

The pair, who have been friends for more than 20 years, will be raising funds for two causes, Prostate Cancer and LawCare, the mental health charity for the legal sector.

Ron and Dafydd have spent weeks climbing many of the peaks in Eryri along with a trip to the Lake District.

Ron has also been running regularly, including running Cancer Research UK’s Run 62 Miles in March challenge.

Among the peaks that the pair have tackled as part of their training schedule are Crimpiau, Moel Siabod, Cader Idris, Tryfan, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach, Foel Fras, Y Garn, Glanamara, Wyddfa and, most recently, Elidir Fawr.

Residents of the pair’s home village of Llandyrnog are also doing their bit by holding a fundraising coffee morning at the village hall on Saturday, July 27. 

Dafydd, who is head of criminal law at Gamlins Law, said: “We’re into the final few weeks now before we set off for Tanzania at the beginning of September.

“We’ve been trying to climb as many peaks as we can at weekends and evenings to ensure we are ready for what is going to be an incredible challenge.

“We’ll be keeping this going through the rest of July and August to ensure we are as ready as we can be when we set off.

“We’ve been hugely grateful to everyone who has donated to our Just Giving page so far including friends, family, colleagues and clients.

“We’re aiming to raise a minimum of £2,000 with money going to Prostate Care and LawCare, both extremely deserving causes.”

Gamlins Law, which employs more than 80 people, has six offices across North Wales including its head office in Rhyl and further offices in Ruthin, Mold, Abergele, Holywell and Denbigh.
