THE opening of a new event space in a park in Abergele will be marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a “fun day” on Sunday (July 21).

Abergele Town Council has organised the event, at Pentre Mawr Park, in partnership with Events Conwy, to be held from 10am to 5pm.

The park’s new event space will be declared officially open following the ribbon-cutting at 12pm.

The day will include live music and dance performances, entertainment in the event space, a dog show, and children’s rides.

There will be plenty more to see and do, including den building, games, colouring, and also various stallholders and food and beverage concessions.

A spokesperson for the town council’s events sub-committee said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Abergele Fun Day and look forward to seeing the community enjoying themselves at our event this Sunday.

“We feel lucky to have such a fantastic open space right on our doorstep, and to be able to enjoy it together.”

As part of the Green Gele project, the new event space was funded by Welsh Government’s ENRaW 2 project, in partnership with Conwy County Borough Council.

Cllr Chris Cater, portfolio holder with responsibility for strategic land use planning, said: “Conwy County Borough Council are thrilled to see the official opening of the Community Event Space here in Pentre Mawr Park.

“The event space is part of the Welsh Government-funded ENRaW programme that has seen a number of improvements to the open spaces in Abergele.

“Alongside the event space, this also includes new paths in Gele park and a number of environmental improvements such as more plants and shrubs being introduced.

“We hope to see the event space being well used by the local community.”
