THIS WEEK we look back at a popular menswear store that was in Prestatyn for more than 50 years.
Carson’s Mens Wear, a family business, was founded in 1908 by Joseph Carson, originally from Birkenhead.

Joseph’s son-in-law Tom Irving eventually took over the business, opening the first Carson’s on Station Road in 1954.
The shop moved to 218 High Street in 1963, and was then taken on by Tom’s son, before grandson Hugh Irving followed his father and grandfather in running the business.
Hugh, described as “ever-friendly and helpful”, was a former magistrate and served as Mayor of Prestatyn between 1977 and 1978.
The business continued to thrive under his stewardship, in later years being helped by assistant Mark Cooper.
Carson’s closed down in 2008, with the space going on to house a series of pet businesses and an insurance company, which has also closed.
