A MAN from Rhyl has admitted being involved in an attempt to have more than 3kg of cannabis imported into the UK.
Scott Paul Cooper, 28, of Rhyl Coast Road, pleaded guilty to the following charges at Mold Crown Court today (July 12):
- Possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
- Concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of cannabis.
On December 16, 2022 in Rhyl, Cooper was said to have been found in possession of 386g of cannabis.
Between October 26 and December 3, 2022, meanwhile, he was said to have been involved in efforts to have 3.28kg of cannabis imported.
Prosecutor Laura Knightly said that three packages of cannabis were intercepted by Border Force.
Gareth Bellis, representing Cooper, said his client has no previous convictions, with a single caution to his name for cannabis possession in 2018.
Judge Rhys Rowlands, presiding over the hearing, adjourned Cooper’s sentencing until Friday, September 6.
He bailed Cooper for the intervening period, on the condition that he keeps to an appointment with the probation service.
A pre-sentence report was also ordered on Cooper’s behalf.
Judge Rowlands said Cooper “must be prepared for custody”, telling him: “You know, and I know, it’s a serious matter, because of the amount of cannabis involved.”
