THE dine-in alternative to the hugely popular takeaway, Fulla Flavourz, has opened at the old home of Rhyl’s beloved Bistro - a venue synonymous with good food and fond memories.
This young upstart is establishing itself as a go to option for fans of Afro Caribbean-inspired Street Food on the North Wales Coast.
‘We want to provide people with a reason not to go to Manchester or London to taste great food,” explained owner Humphrey Muleba, whose brother Koni is head chef.
Our table overlooked the entrance to Rhyl’s Marine Lake complete with views out to the mountains
Early evening sun bursting through the windows was absorbed by the restaurant’s simple black and earthy coloured décor, showcasing African artwork.
Our experience kicked off with a brace of curtain raiser cocktails.
Designed by our ingenious server Sasha, the cocktail menu has taken traditional recipes and reinvented them.
These cocktails are beautifully presented and caught the eye of everyone in the restaurant as they made their way to our table.

Island Mambo a brilliantly blue signature drink featuring Wray & Nephew rum, Falernum mango juice, and blue curaco, and Afro-Roots Mojito Magic a unique tiki glass cocktail with lime, brown sugar, fresh mint, blackberry liqueur and gum syrup.
Our starters consisted of beautifully moist aromatic and comforting bao buns, sweet and hugely satisfying sticky wings dripping in the restaurant’s special honey and whisky glaze. But the star of this serving was undoubtedly the Chakalaka Tacos.
These contained a combination of sumptuous sun-dried tomatoes; warm spices plus sweet popping pomegranate jewels.
Next up were our mains: Sea Bass and Chargrill Jerk Burger.
The elegant pan seared Sea Bass was served on whipped sweet potatoes, with perfectly cooked broccoli. These subtle flavours were awakened by a devilishly vibrant sauce vierge.
The delicious chargrilled jerk burger had a flavoursome peppery clove crust providing a spice sensation expertly contrasted with a delectably tangy mango salsa.
Add to this a perfectly cooked helping of seasoned fries and moreish house sauce and you were transported to comfort food heaven.
The dessert menu provided us with divine delicately deep-fried plantain, served alongside an indulgent ice cream with pistachio sauce plus Alabama chocolate fudge cake, a delight for any chocolate lover.
We were also treated, courtesy of our host to more cocktails (the gorgeous Kruger Cooler, chic Safari Sunburst and knockout rum punch inspired Rooibos Romance) and the quirky and imaginative Nutella calzone which hit the spot perfectly and brought our memorable visit to a showstopping close.
Fulla’s Kitchen Bar & Grill boasts a lively atmosphere and during our visit was playing host to birthday parties, romantic dinners, family get-togethers and fun girlie catchups.
My visit whetted my appetite for more Afro-Caribbean flavours.
And with owner Humphrey hinting at the introduction to the menu of the TikTok sensation that is seafood boil it won’t be long before we make a return to journey to this joyous up and coming dining destination.
