A GROUP running weekly filmmaking sessions for young people has expanded from its Llanddulas base to open in two more locations in North Wales.

Out for a Film Media, a partnership between North Walian filmmakers Addie Davies and Thomas Ellis, is now also offering weekly sessions in Llandudno and Prestatyn, as well as Llanddulas.

These started running at the start of June, with the Prestatyn sessions on a Wednesday at the Scala Cinema, and on a Friday in Llandudno at the Trinity Community Centre.

Youngsters put together their 'spooky' entry for Rhyl film festival

Addie said: “On the back of our Llanddulas Young Filmmakers club winning an award for the film they created at the Rhyller Thriller film festival, as well as our sold-out pop-up workshops over the Easter holidays in Prestatyn and Llandudno, the demand for our weekly filmmaking sessions has grown.

“This has allowed us to expand and be able to offer weekly sessions in Llandudno and Prestatyn.”

Thomas added: “In both Llandudno and Prestatyn we offer two sessions, a session for ages six-to-10 years old, which runs from 5.30-7pm, and a session for ages 11-18, which runs from 7.15-8.45pm.

“The sessions are a wonderful way for young people to showcase their creativity and learn new filmmaking skills, with them working on all aspects of their own films from writing, directing, cinematography and sound.

“The sessions are always fun and lively and teach the students the importance of teamwork alongside technical skills and performance during production.”

The Young Filmmakers Club sessions in Llandudno, Prestatyn and Llanddulas offer £3 taster sessions for students to sample the workshops prior to joining.

Addie added: “The response since we launched has been incredible with us approaching 50 students across our three locations.

“We are delighted that the sessions allow young people to discover the joy of filmmaking as well as making new friendships.

“We look forward to welcoming new students over the summer holidays as the sessions will be continuing to run over the school break.”

Thomas said: “We have also been delighted that our sessions have been able to support local businesses, schools and vital community buildings thanks to the venues that host our sessions and by supporting school fayres.

“It really shows what is possible by working together as a community and we thank everyone for their support and incredible feedback so far.”
