THERE will be a police presence at the former Pontin's site in Prestatyn tomorrow (July 4), as officers conduct important training.

The training is to help prepare officers for certain real-life incidents and scenarios, and has taken place at the site several times over the last few months.

Police said the site was "secure and closed", with no need for members of the public to be alarmed.

In May, a similar training exercise caused a scare, with residents telling the Journal that they saw “armed police” by the entrance to the Pontins park and heard “gunshots”.

North Wales Police later confirmed that this was, in fact, a training exercise.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "Our police officers often conduct important training to help prepare them for real-life incidents.

"This training is not in relation to any specific threat.

"A training exercise is due to take place tomorrow (Thursday, July 4) at the former Pontin’s site in Prestatyn – a venue which we have previously used over recent weeks.

"There is no need to be alarmed - this is a secure and closed site which is managed safely by instructors.

"Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding."
