A MAN from Dyserth is to run from Chepstow to Prestatyn on his own for four days straight to raise money for a charity.

Ryan Bateman, 27, is to start the run of the Offa’s Dyke Path on September 11, in aid of The Motor Neurone Disease Association.

It follows his “amazing, strong, kind, beautiful” mother, Sarah, 54, sadly being diagnosed with motor neurone disease last November, which Ryan said has been “heartbreaking to see”.

The course involves roughly 9,000 metres (29,000 feet) of elevation gain across the run, and Ryan has so far received more than £2,400 in donations - www.justgiving.com/page/ryan-bateman-1716636820538.

He said: “I’ve chosen this charity as, unfortunately, my mum was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in November last year and I had no idea what it even was at the time.

“So, I’m also trying to raise awareness of this cruel disease.

“I want to raise as much money as possible to help all those around the UK who suffer with motor neurone disease get the support they deserve from this fantastic charity, who do a great job at supporting all those affected.”

Ryan plans to be running roughly 12 hours a day, with lots of “power hiking” involved, too.

He previously ran a marathon last October in aid of the children’s ward at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, and said he “can’t wait to get started”.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is a charity focused on improving access to care, research and campaigning for people affected by the illness.
