STAFF from services across Denbighshire County Council have “volunteered to be redeployed” to assist with catching up with its backlog of missed waste collections.
On June 3, the council introduced changes to recycling and waste collections, including new containers and weekly collections for recyclable materials, and the scrapping of the blue wheelie bin.
Since then, some residents have been required to separate their “dry” recycling using a new three-tier “Trolibocs”.
But the council has so far issued multiple apologies for residents across the county not having their bins collected on time.
A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: “Staff from services across the council have volunteered to be redeployed to help with tasks to support our front-line collection crews as we continue work to resolve issues around the new waste and recycling service.
“Other temporary measures we have brought in to support the service include:
- Bringing in additional vehicles and staff, so more crews are out each day.
- Arranging extra shifts so crews can stay out longer.
- Having crews out on Saturdays focussing on key areas which have been missed.
- Relaxing the arrangements for visiting our recycling centres as a temporary measure to help residents.
“Our waste team is working very hard to catch up with the current backlog and we again apologise to any households affected by missed collections.
“We would also like to thank all residents for their patience whilst we address the temporary issues with the roll-out of the new service.”
