A MAN who 'had enough' of dealing cocaine went on to hand himself in to police, a court heard.

Michael Shield, of no fixed abode, appeared at Mold Crown Court for sentence on Thursday afternoon.

The 35-year-old had admitted offences of possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession of cannabis at a previous hearing.

Patrick Gartland, prosecuting, told the court that in June this year, Shield approached a Sergeant at Rhyl Police Station and informed him someone had "grassed on him," and that he was wanted.

The Sergeant checked, and confirmed Shield was not wanted at that time.

But the defendant admitted the bag he was carrying contained drugs and handed it over.

Inside, police found a phone and just over £1,200 in cash, as well as cocaine and cannabis.

He was arrested and interviewed - and when making no comment, he was told he would be released under investigation.

Shield then disclosed he owed drug debts and he feared for his safety.

He admitted the cash in the bag had been proceeds of selling cocaine and that the phone would contain evidence of his drug dealing.

Myles Wilson, defending, told the court: "He handed himself in. His instruction was that he'd simply had enough of being a cocaine dealer and user.

"It's a familiar story where someone with a background of mental health issues self medicates and uses drugs, builds up a debt with their dealer and has no choice but to work for them to clear it.

"He owed about £10,000 and couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

"The only way he could think to get out was to hand himself in and be remanded in custody.

"He tells me his partner is making arrangements to move to a new area so they can start fresh when he is released."

Judge Rhys Rowlands jailed the defendant for 30 months.
