Pupils at a Prestatyn school have shown off their green credentials after being awarded a top eco award.

The youngsters at Bodnant Community School have achieved Platinum Flag Award status for the sixth time.

The prestigious award comes from environmental education programme, Eco-Schools - an international initiative run in Wales by the charity, Keep Wales Tidy, and funded by the Welsh Government.

The programme encourages pupils to make changes that will benefit their school, the wider community and local environment.

The Bodnant pupils made great strides throughout the year to reduce waste, walk to school more often, and improve their school grounds.

All as part of their efforts to sustain their coveted Platinum Flag Award.

Joint eco coordinators, Mrs van Niekerk and Mrs Graham, saw first hand the changes this initiative brought about within the school.

They said: "The children have been inspirational, taking the lead in raising green issues in school.

"Their growing confidence has been amazing to witness and we know they have plenty of great ideas in the pipeline.

"The Eco Committee represented the school well during the assessment, speaking knowledgably and answering all the questions that came their way.

"All the children at Bodnant Community School should be very proud of what they have achieved."

Also commending the efforts of the school was Catrin Hughes, education officer for Keep Wales Tidy, who said: "The Platinum Flag is a very impressive achievement and highlights the enthusiasm and commitment that Bodnant Community School has towards sustainable development.

"The dedication of the Eco-Committee over many years has been inspirational.

"I’d like to congratulate and thank all of the pupils and staff involved for their hard work!"
