ON JUNE 7, the pupils of Ysgol Glan Gele in Abergele celebrated 80 years since the D-Day landings of 1944.
In April, the school council wrote a letter to Abergele Town Council asking to be considered for a grant that they were offering to groups who would like to participate in the celebration.
The school council’s letter managed to secure the grant of £250.

With the grant, the pupils had a traditional fish and chip dinner, wrapped in old newspaper and a piece of Victoria sponge cake.
All the pupils came to school dressed in 1940s style and at the end of the day, the pupils were all given a piece of rationed chocolate.
A school spokesperson said: "It was a great day; the children and staff thoroughly embraced the 1940s theme.
"The children learnt about the importance of the day and experienced a sense of what it was like to live at that time. "
