A DAY nursery in Rhyl which was slammed in an inspection report closed weeks after it was published, the Journal has learnt.

Hannah's House Day Nursery, which was at 157-159 Vale Road, was described as "poorly run" by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), who also noted "bored children" and safeguarding issues.

That report was published on July 4, 2023, with Lisa Walsh, who was director of Hannah's House Day Nursery along with Chris Walsh, then telling the Journal later that month that the nursery was under new management.

But after being contacted by the Journal, CIW has today (June 20) revealed that Hannah’s House, in fact, closed last August.

The nursery did not share information regarding its closure online last summer.

A CIW spokesperson said: “CIW can confirm Hannah’s House Day Nursery closed in August 2023.

“The provider notified CIW of the closure, and their registration was removed on September 5, 2023.”

CIW inspectors stated in their report last year that they needed to prompt staff to wipe children’s noses, while drinking water was not made accessible to children from the Flying Start and toddler room.

The nursery was handed a 'poor' rating for wellbeing, care and development, and leadership and management, and was rated “adequate” for its environment.

Later last July, Lisa said: "Hannah's House Day Nursery is now under new management.

"Our team are working on each other’s strengths and ensuring we are developing skills and enhancing training to give the children the best possible outcomes and ensuring best practice."
