A woman has gone from medicine to miaows with a big career change.

Mum-of-three, Sarah Walker, is moving away from a career in the pharmaceutical and retail sector to launch a new cat care business, The Cat Butler, visiting and caring for cats in the comfort of their own homes.

Sarah, from Gronant near Prestatyn, had a 16-year career working in pharmaceuticals, followed by several customer-focussed and charity roles after she was made redundant, and is now turning her hand to her cat care service for felines and their owners across Flintshire, North Denbighshire, and areas of Chester.

"Being made redundant from the job I had in the pharmaceutical industry in 2011, turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it allowed me to focus on raising my young family, a daughter and two sons, now 20, 17 and 14.

"Over the years since, I have taken on a variety of roles that accommodated my family life, and as my children grew older, I realised I no longer wanted to return to the corporate world of pharmaceuticals. Instead, I discovered my passion for helping others and wanting to make a positive impact."

On setting up her premium cat sitting service, Sarah said: "I grew up with cats from an early age. Cats are such intriguing creatures; each with their own distinct personalities and temperaments. I appreciate they make you work to earn their trust - and when they purr happily, it's a clear sign they approve of you.

"However, cats really don't enjoy being away from their familiar home environment. In the past, I never considered taking my cat, Humbug, 19, to a cattery, because I knew it would be unsettling. Instead, we had to rely on the kindness of friends and neighbours to help, which can become a little awkward to ask every time you want to go away.

"If a service like The Cat Butler had existed back then, it would have made things so much easier. We could have gone away with peace of mind, knowing that our precious cat, and home, would be well taken care of and happy. I want to be able to provide this much needed service for others in a similar situation."

Having only launched her business last week (June 14), Sarah is looking forward to sharing her love of cats to customers across the area.

She added: "Whilst starting my own business is both exciting and scary all at the same time, I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to meet and care for cats of all different breeds and temperaments. That doesn't sound like work to me!"
