PLANS to introduce a seated garden area at the front of a bar in Towyn, replacing its units currently situated outside its premises, have been approved.

Tinker’s Bar, on Towyn Road, submitted an application with the assistance of GAR Property Consultants Ltd to Conwy County Borough Council’s planning committee in March.

It involves a change of use and part-demolition of its existing retail kiosk.

Last week, the committee approved the planning application, but with the following conditions:

  • Conversion works will take place only between 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am-1pm on Saturdays.
  • The new external seating area shall not be used for the consumption of food and drink between 10pm and 9am (the following morning).
  • No live or amplified music shall be played in the external seating area.
  • No music/PA system shall be installed outside the building.

When consulted on the application, Kinmel Bay and Towyn Town Council said it “fully supports” it, while no objections were raised by Natural Resources Wales or Conwy County Borough Council’s highways department.

Though, one neighbour raised concerns through the consultation process about a potential increase of noise, litter, parking and traffic in the surrounding area.

Owner James Tinker said: “We will begin the works before the summer holidays, and will aim to get them done within a few days, to have a modern-looking garden seating area in front of the bar.

“We think this will look significantly better than the tired-looking units currently in front of the premises.

“It will also allow the bar and other businesses behind the units to be seen from the main road.”
