A RESIDENT of Prestatyn said he and his neighbours were left “very confused” after not receiving letters informing them of their new bin collection day.

Since Monday (June 3), Denbighshire residents have been required to separate their “dry” recycling using a new three-tier “Trolibocs” system.

The new service, which is 55 per cent funded by Welsh Government, also involves the scrapping of the blue wheelie bin.

All of the county’s residents on the Trolibocs service were due to receive a letter from Denbighshire County Council with information about the new recycling and waste service, setting out:

  • What their collection day is (some collection days changed).
  • When their first recycling collection will be.
  • When their first non-recyclable collection will be.
  • When to put out the spare wheelie bin for collection.

But one resident, who asked not to be named but said he live on Sandy Lane, said he and his neighbours did not receive such a letter.

Council ‘sorry’ as some Denbighshire recycling bins not collected

It transpired his new bin collection day was Wednesday, having previously been Thursday, but the elderly resident did not have a computer to check this on the council’s website, either.

He added that “at least half a dozen people I’ve spoken to here haven’t had their letters”, and that residents have been left “very confused” because “nobody has told us anything”.

The resident said: “We hadn’t been told of any change whatsoever. We were told the collection day might change, but that the council would let us know.

“I also fear with the new system that, in bad weather, boxes will be all over the road, which could be a hazard especially in the winter. Somebody could get hurt if that happens.”

Denbighshire County Council was approached for comment.

Despite facing some criticism for the change of system, the council believes it will benefit the environment because it will increase recycling rates and the quality of recyclable materials to enable them to be made into new products.

The council also said it will be cheaper to run than the current service, so will provide better value for money to Denbighshire residents.

It will also create 27 new jobs, and expand four businesses on the Colomendy Industrial Estate in Denbigh in building its new waste depot.
