DENBIGHSHIRE County Council has apologised after some residents’ recycling bins were not collected as part of the new system introduced this week.

On Monday, June 3, the council introduced changes to recycling and waste collections, including new containers and weekly collections for recyclable materials.

The new service, which involves the scrapping of the blue wheelie bin, requires residents to separate their “dry” recycling using a three-tier “Trolibocs” service.

But a “minority” of recycling collections were not carried out on Monday, for which the council has apologised.

A council statement read: “Thank you for your efforts with the new recycling system.

“While our crews adapt to the new service, we’d like to ask you to please be patient, as it may take longer than usual to get through the daily collections.

“If your waste and recycling containers have not been emptied please either re-present them the following morning, or leave them out until we are able to collect them.

“We really apologise, but despite our crews’ best efforts, we haven’t been able to catch up with a minority of Monday’s recycling collections.

“Unfortunately, we will not have the capacity to collect this until Monday, 10 June. We appreciate that this is very inconvenient to residents.

“To alleviate this, our crews will collect separated recycling presented as side waste next Monday. You may use any containers to present this additional separated recycling.

“We are deeply sorry for this and appreciate your patience.”

The council said it introduced the new system to help it meet Welsh Government’s 70 per cent recycling target, set for all local authorities in Wales.

It has also created jobs, is better for the environment, and will be cheaper to run, the council has said.
