After a very busy spell the race calendar has been pretty quiet over the past week, so two members of Prestatyn Running Club headed in opposite directions to find competitions.

Gareth Jones was the club’s sole representative in the Moel Hebog race near Porthmadog, the eighth race in the Joe Brown Tuesday Night Series of fellraces.

Though only 5.5 kilometres long it is deceptively tough, with a couple of  false summits. The field was understandably smaller than usual but Gareth had an excellent run, coming 23rd out of 78 finishers with a time of 44.38.

The size of the field which Alex Ryder joined on Sunday was somewhat larger – in fact, about 30,000 more.

He returned to Manchester for the city’s popular 10k, in which he has a good record. Though slightly slower than he had hoped for, he was satisfied to come 187th in 37.10, especially as he is just getting back to fitness after a series of minor injuries and niggles.

Most members looking for competition over the weekend had to settle for Parkruns, and for nine of them they came just hours after the club’s annual social run and buffet in Rhewl.

Among those who doubled up was Mark Dakeyne, who recorded a pb in the Nova Parkrun following Friday night’s 5-mile off-road run.
