THE Pontins holiday camp in Prestatyn which closed late last year could be bought by a rival company.
Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park, which opened in 1971, closed effective immediately on November 30, 2023.
No public explanation has yet been given by either Pontins or Britannia Hotels (which owns the park) for the closure.
But holiday company Butlin’s is believed to be interested in acquiring the site.

‘Serious expressions of interest’ in Pontins Prestatyn, MP says
When asked by the Journal if it has made enquiries about Prestatyn Sands, a Butlin’s spokesperson said: “This year sees our biggest ever investment across our three resorts.
“As a fast-growing and well-backed business, we're always looking for new opportunities, and the North West is an obvious location for us in the future.”
Previously, James Davies, the MP for Vale of Clwyd, said he has been made aware of “serious expressions of interest” in taking on the site.
Dr Davies has previously written to a dozen successful holiday park operators to encourage them to look at acquiring the site.
In December, the Journal was told that, while Britannia Hotels was inviting offers for Prestatyn Sands, it was not yet prepared to enter into negotiations about the site at that stage.
Staff at Prestatyn Sands were told that the decision to close the park was due to it being projected to make a financial loss in 2024.
Butlin’s three current resorts are in Somerset, Bognor Regis, and Skegness.
Pontins also shut its parks in Camber Sands and Southport in November and January respectively, and has only three open sites remaining in the UK.
