Denbighshire and Conwy residents stage protest convoys over 20mph

The action come days after transport secretary Ken Skates outlined 'targeted change' to 20mph in the Senedd alongside a national listening programme to "prepare the ground for changes". Over the next few months, people in Wales are being encouraged to let their council know where they think 20mph could be better targeted.

Both convoys started at 1.30pm on Saturday, April 27.

Tina Lee, organiser of the Conwy protest, said: "We had a great turn out, there was a wonderful response from members the public. We had just over 20.

"Our convoy members are ready to carry out more protest and convoys."

Sarah Jones, organiser of the Denbighshire protest, said: "We went through each town in convoy. The cars were decorated with posters and pendants. We had a lot of 'beeps' and thumbs up in support from other motorists on the roads we went through and from pedestrians in the towns.

"A total of 12 cars joined the convoy. This was Denbighshire's first one.

"I feel there should now be a uniform approach taken throughout Wales regarding the 20mph. No one has any problem with 20mph outside schools, hospitals etc but if it is left to individual councils, it will just be more of a mess.

"Each councils interpret guidance differently and hence why in Denbighshire, only five roads were exempt (the lowest in Wales) whereas I believe Gwynedd had 80?

"Clear concise instructions need to be given by Welsh Government.

"North Wales depends on the tourist trade and a number of tourists have said because of the 20mph, they will not come to Wales in future.

"A number of businesses depend on the summer trade and sadly if its not there, they will close."

For the Conwy protest, campaigners met at West Shore car park and headed to Gloddaeth Street in Llandudno. They then headed to Penrhyn Bay, along the prom, towards Rhos-on-Sea, before travelling to Colwyn Bay and Old Colwyn.

Next, it was on to Llanddulas and Abergele. The convoy then headed back to Colwyn Bay and the Black Cat roundabout before heading through Llandudno Junction, Deganwy and West Shore.

For the Denbighshire convoy, protestors met in Morrisons car park in Rhyl. They headed to Marsh Road before heading over Vale Road Bridge. Then it was onward to Bodfor Street, Wellington Road, Russell Road and the Coast Road. The action then travelled through Prestatyn, Meliden, Rhuddlan, St Asaph, Denbigh and Ruthin.
