A MAN whose cheese was damaged in a seagull attack outside a supermarket in Rhyl has slammed the response from the store.
Frank Jordan had completed his shop at the Sainsbury’s superstore on Rhyl Road when, as he left the premises, a seagull swept down and tried to steal his block of cheese.
Mr Jordan fought off the seagull, which at one point had the item “in its beak”, and by the end of the ordeal had ripped the pack open and damaged the cheese.
“I left the store with my trolley of groceries, with a block of cheese in there,” Mr Jordan told the Journal.
“Next thing I know, it’s got my cheese in its mouth, took a big chunk in its beak.”
After recovering the block of cheese, Mr Jordan, feeling robbed of his freshly-bought produce, went back into the store and spoke to the manager.
He continued: “I was badly shaken up by my fight with the seagull and it would have been nice to have been offered a drink and a sit down as well as a replacement block of cheese.
“They refused to do it – I think it’s mean that a shop as big as Sainsbury’s won’t change a block of cheese for me, it isn’t a lot to ask for.

“I don’t know if I’m the first person to be attacked like that, it was scary.”
He added that the shop needed signs warning customers of the many seagulls that frequent its roof, and the potential danger they pose.
At the time, Mr Jordan said he spotted seagulls try to steal shopping from other customers.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We are sorry that one of our pesky neighbours pinched some food from a customer outside our Rhyl store yesterday.
“We’ve invited the customer to get back in touch so that we can replace this stolen item.”
