A MAN from Rhyl smashed the window of another driver’s vehicle after telling him: “You cut me up; don’t do that again”.

Andrew Corran, 44, of Wellington Road, was sentenced to 16 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court yesterday (March 25).

During yesterday’s hearing, he admitted charges of threatening behaviour, possession of an offensive weapon in public, and criminal damage to property.

The court heard that, during the morning of March 9, Corran and another motorist, James Strode, were driving alongside each other on Wellington Road when they came to a red light.

At that point, Corran told Mr Strode: “You cut me up; don’t do that again. If you want to start something, pull over.”

Mr Strode replied with words to the effect of “grow up”, before starting to drive away in his Ford Transit van.

But Corran then got out of his own vehicle and, using a mallet, broke Mr Strode’s van window, causing glass to smash into his face.

In a statement, Mr Strode said he felt “alarmed” and “distressed” as a result of the incident, as well as feeling concern for his own safety.

Corran’s six-month-old daughter was in the car with him at the time.

He had four previous convictions for five offences, albeit all for unrelated matters.

In addition to his suspended sentence, Corran was ordered to pay compensation of £200, costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85, and a statutory surcharge of £154.

This amounted to a total payment of £439.
