1. Concerns over growing 'homeless campsite' near Rhyl seafront
This week, concerns have been raised about a 'homeless campsite' that appears to be growing near Rhyl seafront.
It is understood that one tent appeared about six weeks ago and then more shortly after.

2. Pontins Prestatyn ‘no longer being considered’ for asylum seekers
Pontins holiday park which closed in Prestatyn last November is “no longer” under consideration to be used to house asylum seekers, the Home Office confirmed this week.
Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park shut its doors with immediate effect on November 30, 2023, having been open since 1971.
The Journal submitted a Freedom of Information request to the Home Office, asking if it had made any enquiries regarding the housing of asylum seekers at the park.

3. Rhyl sandwich and cake shop is town’s ‘new business award’ winner
A sandwich and cake shop in Rhyl priding itself on home baking was crowned the winner of the “new business award” at last week’s Rhyl BID Business Awards 2024.
Neens Butties and Bakes, which was opened on Grange Road by Janine Roberts in September 2022, saw off competition from nine other businesses to win the prize.

4. See the hotspots for radioactive radon gas in Rhyl and Prestatyn
The levels of radioactive radon gas in Rhyl, Prestatyn and the surrounding areas have been revealed.
Public health officials say every building contains radon and levels are usually low, but there are hotspots across the country, caused by the type of ground buildings were constructed on.
An interactive map, provided by the UK Health Security Agency, can tell you whether you live in, or near, an area affected by high levels of radon gas.

5. Additional £20million funding package confirmed for Rhyl
A man from Rhyl who runs a barber shop from his own home in Rhyl has introduced a new subscription service into his business.
Jordan Baker, 27, has run Jordan Baker Barbering from his converted detached garage for the last three-and-a-half years, but has now brought in a new scheme aiming to save customers money.
