GOOD intentions led to the fire service being called out to a 'homeless campsite' near Rhyl seafront.

Over the last few days, tents have been spotted on the grass area near Rhyl seafront.

A fire engine was seen at the scene last night however, the call out was confirmed as a "false alarm with good intent."

A spokesperson from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to West Parade, Rhyl, at 9.50pm on March 14 but this was a false alarm with good intent.

"There was no fire situation. The incident involved members of the public using a disposable barbecue.

"No fire service action required."

On March 15, a dog-walker noticed that a fourth tent had appeared on the grass area. This had been propped up a little way from the other three tents.

It is believed that the first tent appeared about six weeks ago and then another shortly after. Another larger tent arrived on Monday, March 11.

The situation has since changed from this morning and from this afternoon, there is now just the one blue tent in place.

Dog walker Adam Thomas said: "It looks like it has been abandoned and just left with rubbish inside."

Adam said earlier this week that the 'homeless campsite' had been growing for the last couple of weeks on Rhyl seafront.

He said: "I live opposite and have been helping with food etc but I don’t understand why these guys aren’t being helped by local authorities.

"I’ve helped one of the men, who is from Ireland, with food and drink. I regularly talk to him whilst walking the dog and he would like help."

Committed fundraiser Richard Kendrick, who was recognised for his work with communities across Denbighshire in 2022 and won a Platinum Champion Award in celebration of the Queen's Jubilee, said on Tuesday: "One person is local and two are not from the area. Two tents belong to one person.

"They are being looked after. Residents do not need to be concerned.

"We are checking in on the individuals and they all have my phone number.

"People may see more people near the seafront in tents coming up to the summer.

"We are constantly giving out sleeping bags and tents. The demand is growing."

Richard said Louis Ellis, from Crazy Golf Towyn, had donated brand new pop up tents.
