THE Rhyl Tourist Information Centre was named the town’s “business of the year” at an awards ceremony last week.

Held at 1891 Bar and Restaurant on March 5, the Rhyl BID Business Awards 2024 celebrated those striving to show off the best the town has to offer.

Janette Tomes and Toni Vitti, of Rhyl Tourist Information Centre, collected the last of the 15 awards handed out on the night; a special accolade voted for by Rhyl BID itself.

A one-stop-shop that offers advice to those visiting Rhyl and Denbighshire, it is made up of a small team which, Rhyl BID said, “works hard to continually develop their skills”.

It has also participated in Rhyl BID training and public events, and was praised for championing the town and its businesses, and supporting wider community initiatives like Dementia Friendly Rhyl.

Toni Vitti, of Rhyl Tourist Information Centre, said: “We were extremely honoured to receive this award, especially as it recognises the work we do to support businesses in the town, not just those who are tourism-related.

“The evening was a fantastic celebration of some of the people who make this town such a brilliant place to work, live and visit.

“Rhyl BID's organisation of the evening was flawless, and 1891's hospitality was as wonderful as ever.”

Staff at the centre often assist people with booking accommodation, providing information on places to visit or eat, planning routes and more.

People can also buy crafts, maps, guides and books from the centre, which is based on West Parade and open five days a week.

Janette Tomes has worked for the centre for more than 20 years, firstly a seasonal member of staff before taking on a full-time job.

She added: “It felt amazing to win. We were quite shocked and surprised when they called our name!

“We were honoured to receive an award from Rhyl BID. I thought it was a fantastic evening; 1891 outdid themselves. The food was absolutely amazing, too.

“It was a fantastic celebration of the businesses and people who make Rhyl such a special place.

“I enjoy meeting people and talking to customers; we get such varied customers, from day trippers and holidaymakers to walkers and families.

“Toni and I, and the other staff, all get on fantastically, as well.”
