A WOMAN from Abergele assaulted one police officer and racially abused another after a pub in Prestatyn felt she was already too drunk to be served more alcohol.

Natalie Fletcher, 28, of Marine Road, admitted charges of common assault of an emergency worker, threatening behaviour, and racially aggravated behaviour, at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court today (March 11).

She was sentenced to a year's imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and was banned from entering licenced premises in Denbighshire for a year.

The court heard that, on December 2, 2023, Fletcher entered The Ffrith pub, but was declined service as she was “clearly intoxicated”.

This was explained to Fletcher, who was described as being “aggressive”, with a member of staff saying she threatened to “put me in the paper” and to “f***ing batter you”.

Fletcher then took a half-full pint glass, leant over the bar and started pouring Peroni lager out of a tap into the glass.

Customers moved away from the area as Fletcher took another glass and threw it against the bar, causing it to smash.

The staff worker who was threatened by Fletcher said she found the incident “very emotionally draining”, and feels “a lot easier” now that they have changed jobs.

Police officers attended, with PC Danielle Barnfield assaulted by Fletcher, while also having to use force to restrain her.

Another officer, PC Min, was the target of a racial slur from Fletcher, meanwhile.

After Fletcher was arrested, two snooker balls were found in her possession.

In mitigation for Fletcher, who had a previous conviction for actual bodily harm in 2015, the court that she is “fully aware” that she exhibited “poor behaviour”.

Fletcher was said to have been “mortified” to have seen closed circuit television footage of the incident, and was “very sensible” in pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity.

She had began a relationship in September 2022, which involved physical and emotional violence throughout and led to her being made homeless.

This relationship ended shortly before this incident, her partner having been arrested in November 2023.

Fletcher, a mother-of-two, was said to have been using alcohol as a "coping mechanism" due to her being in a "really difficult place emotionally" at the time.

On the day in question, she had been drinking wine at a friend's house before going to the pub in a state of intoxication.

Sentencing, District Judge Gwyn Jones told Fletcher: "Bar staff are not supposed, and should not, serve anybody if they feel they have had too much (alcohol).

"You made certain very offensive comments to those officers, who were there to make sure the other people in the premises are safe and don't have to put up with your behaviour."

Fletcher will also carry out 20 days' rehabilitation activity requirements, and a three-month alcohol treatment requirement.

She will also complete unpaid work, while a total of £500 in compensation, and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service, will also be paid.
