FOR many, a meal at McDonald's can be the ultimate comfort food. Whether it is going as a treat as a family, a quick snack on the way to work, or a place for a coffee on a chilly day.
However, there may be occasions when customers go through the drive-thru and look through their bag only to be disappointed to see an item is missing or a burger is lukewarm. In store, individuals may be faced with long waits or not the service they expected.
We have taken a look at TripAdvisor ratings and sifted through restaurants to bring you a list of the best and the worst McDonald's across the two counties.
McDonald's, Mostyn Champneys Retail Park, Llandudno
Rating: 1.5/5 (61 reviews)
#30 of 31 Fast food in Llandudno
#127 of 127 Restaurants in Llandudno
Despite only opening in June 2021, the two-storey McDonald's on Mostyn Champneys hasn't attracted the best reviews.
Reviews focus on the restaurant being needing a "clean" and the self-service machines failing to print receipts. There are also complaints about wait times.
One review said: "The order points were not giving out receipts so didn’t have a clue what our order number was. There was a manager (?) clearing some tables so I asked him, he shrugged it off with it always happens, the counter staff are aware and will deal with it.
"I’ve never seen a McDonald's so filthy. It looked like the floor had not seen a brush or mop since it opened."
Another customer, who had a mediocre experience, wrote: "Front door not working, order/pay machines couldn't accept cardless nor print receipts, run out of BBQ sauce and serviettes. Toilet floor sopping wet, hand dryer not working, toilet seat on the floor. They're not having a good day! But the vegan burger was still awesome."
McDonald's, Rhyl - Clwyd Retail Park
Rating: 1.5/5 (38 reviews)
#43 of 43 Fast food in Rhyl
#72 of 72 Restaurants in Rhyl
Again, these reviews for this McDonald's don't paint the best picture but it is important to note there is only 38 reviews. There are three 'excellent' reviews and 31 'terrible'. Complaints range from food missing from orders and "appallingly slow" service.
One customer said in March 2024: "This is the seventh time food has been missing from the order."
Another person said: "This place should be reclassified as a car park delivery service, not a drive thru. I tried to be patient as I could see the staff were constantly delivering to cars parked up in the car park waiting for orders, but after 20 minutes I gave up and went in to get a refund. Even requesting this did not prompt my order to appear, although there were plenty of orders piled up on a trolley for delivery drivers that were coming and going. Maybe if they focus more on the serving customers that turn up at the 'drive thru' they would get better reviews."
McDonald's, Rhuddlan Road A55 Expressway, Abergele
Rating: 2.5/5 (128 reviews)
#5 of 5 Quick Bites in Abergele
Sadly, another McDonald's attracting - in more recent months, not the best reviews. Reviews concentrate on "wrong meals" being received when going through the drive-thru and missing items.
One customer said: "Went to Abergele McDonald's drive through, ordered a large triple burger meal for myself and chicken burger meal for my daughter. Drove all the way home, and low and behold, I certainly did not get a large triple burger meal. Tried ringing several times to complain and no one was picking up the phone, they were not busy, only myself and one other car in the drive thru so how can they get an order wrong."
The customer added that on that particular evening, she was a "tired, unhappy, hard-working NHS mum."
A more positive review saw a staff member complimented.
McDonald's, 18/20 High Street, Rhyl
Rating: 2.5/5 (112 reviews)
#9 of 9 Coffee & Tea in Rhyl
Similarly this McDonald's on Rhyl High Street hasn't got the best reviews with 45 'terrible' reviews and 20 'poor' but, to balance this out, there is 20 'positive' reviews.
Complaints range from the food being "cold" or "lukewarm". One customer urged the restaurant to "up their game".
One customer wrote: "Ordered two kids happy meals a Big Mac meal. Stood for over 10 mins waiting. When got the food, both boxes (happy meals) were open in a bag and Big Mac and fries were loose not in a bag. When I asked for a bag I was looked at if I was weird. I pointed out that they really need to pack food a lot better."
McDonald's, Junction Leisure Park, Llandudno Junction
Rating: 3/5 (111 reviews)
#7 of 8 Quick Bites in Llandudno Junction
A better rated McDonald's, this restaurant has always been popular. With it's location, just next to Cineworld, customers find it convenient to pop into the restaurant for a quick bite to eat.
We say quick but slow service is highlighted in more recent reviews as well as complaints over certain members of staff and "wrong" orders.
There are 23 'excellent' reviews and 41 'terrible'.
A more positive review, posted late last year, read: "Well my wife and I called in on our way to Anglesey. The standard of the food was okay, not much different than other McDonald's restaurants. What I was more impressed with was the fact that there was a concerted effort to keep the seating area clean - staff were wiping the walls and cleaning tables during our visit, something you do not always see. Even the toilets were clean, which is not always the case in some McDonald's restaurants."
