A MAN is to run Rhyl’s Race For Life in June for charity – all while dressed as a teddy bear.

Richard Kendrick will also be taking on Royal British Legion Industries’ (RBLI) Great Tommy Sleep Out when he sleeps rough for all five Saturdays in March in Rhyl, Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno.

Donations he receives from the sleepout, which he also completed last year and raised roughly £2,500 from, will again be given to the RBLI.

Money from the Race For Life, taking place on June 2, will be in aid of Cancer Research and The Osborne Trust, meanwhile.

This Great Tommy Sleep Out sees participants brave the cold for a night in March in aid of the roughly 6,000 military veterans living on the streets in the UK.

He said: “I’ve got people joining me on different nights, and I’m also going to join other people doing it during the week.

“Some will be in their gardens, or parks, so I’ll be joining other veterans taking part.

“I’ve set a target of £500 for now, but we’re past £400 already. With a bit of luck, we’ll hit £500 before the first Saturday (March 2).”

Richard will then be dressed as Bearjamin, the fundraising bear, for the Race For Life in June.

He added: “I’m going to try and run it with the head on – it’ll be hard, because you’re blind with it on!

“I’ll also be wearing a pink tutu and leggings, and an Osborne Trust t-shirt.

“We all know someone who’s passed away from cancer, and one in two of us will get cancer of some sort in our lives. It’s something close to everyone’s hearts.

“I’ve always said I was going to do this, but it’s my first time. It’s not going to be easy - I need people to do it with me, because I’ll need someone to literally hold my hand!”
