ST ANN's Church in Rhyl has welcomed its new priest - and she has a black belt in kickboxing!

The Rev’d Janice Brown was welcomed during a special service on Monday, February 19. The service was led by the Bishop of St Asaph, the Right Reverend Gregory Cameron, and Archdeacon Andy Grimwood.

Bishop Gregory Cameron said: "I am delighted Janice has accepted the opportunity to take up ministry in Rhyl and the wider Aber-Morfa Mission Area.

"St Ann’s Church, where she will be based, is set for a time of challenge and excitement."

Ms Brown was born and raised for the first 20 years of her life in Polbeth, a village 17 miles outside Edinburgh. She came to Wales in the late eighties with her growing family, first living in the Conwy area before moving to Pen Llyn.

Ms Brown now regards Wales as "well and truly as home".

Ms Brown was ordained in 2004 and served in the Diocese of Bangor before joining the Diocese of St Asaph in 2020 as a priest in Aled Mission Area leading the church communities of Llysfaen and Llanddulas.

She said: "I am definitely a people person. I love meeting and chatting to people from all walks of life and sharing God’s Good News whenever opportunity arises. I have a passion to meet families and young people and walk with them on life’s journey in unstable times."

Ms Brown is fond of the outdoors - whether in the garden, walking along the coast, or in the mountains.

She is proud of her black belt in kickboxing. She has, however, given up full contact sports and now keeps fit in the gym.

She also enjoys knitting, sewing, and baking.
