A COMMUNITY hub in Rhyl has closed after those in charge said that running it became “not sustainable”.
High Street Hwb, at 1-4 East Parade, opened in late 2022, at the former home of Woolworths and Gala Bingo.
The building had been left abandoned after a £1.5million cannabis farm was found there in 2021.
It re-opened under Rhyl businessman Stephen Wright (Sovereign Trophies), and has held such events as Morris dancing, soft play, martial arts and fitness classes, and craft fairs.
The hub confirmed its closure last weekend, saying in a statement that it had become a “personal and financial strain”, and “just too much”.

A statement from High Street Hwb on Sunday (January 28) read: “Unfortunately, the rumours and gossip are true; we have had to close the hwb.
“We have loved every minute of providing something for the community in Rhyl and have done some amazing things.
“We know that the news was unexpected and I can only apologise to everyone that we have let down.
“We had some amazing plans for 2024, but unfortunately, I had to be realistic and realise that it was just not sustainable.
“There are so many good causes in Rhyl that do exactly what the hwb has done, and our hope is that the hwb closing just makes those places stronger, as support that was coming to us should shift to them.
“There really are amazing places in the area that need your help and support.
“This closure does not affect any of the businesses that existed within the hwb; all are moving to new locations.
“Thank you to everyone for everything.”
