READERS have continued the tributes to a popular man from Meliden who died after a crash on the A483 last week.

Peter Footitt died aged 61 following the crash, which was shortly before 1.20am on Friday (January 19).

His family described him as a “loving dad to Emma, Sara and Rosie, a son, brother, uncle, amazing ‘pops’, and friend who will be sorely missed by us all”.

Journal and Leader readers have also contributed their own tributes to Peter, sharing their own memories of him and celebrating his life.

Many remembered Peter for his musical talents, with some having been taught to play the guitar by him.

He also owned his own recording studios; Music Mine Studios, and had previously helped organise the We Are The Cae music festival in Wrexham.

Samantha Naylor said: “Pete was such a musical mentor to a lot of young people, including my son. He will be sadly missed.”

Glenn Mitchell added: “What a lovely man Peter was; a good friend and fellow musician, our band loved him, and he helped us a lot in recording and rehearsing at his Music Mine studios.

“He helped lots of musicians; a wonderful man, (he) will be forever missed by us and many people.”

Darren Jones posted: “Peter was a lovely man; so gentle, honest and hard-working, who would go out his way to help anyone.”

Wilbur Milton said: “We had the pleasure of working with Peter on several occasions over the past few years and he was always so friendly, helpful and enthusiastic; just a lovely guy.”

Tony McKeown remembered Peter as being “so kind-hearted”.

He added: “I only knew Peter a short time; he taught me to play the guitar. He was so kind-hearted; he will be sadly missed.”

Janice Kinsella said: “He was a lovely man; I had the pleasure of working with Peter on TTP during COVID. My prayers go out to the family.”

Joy Williams added: “I too worked with Peter on Track and Trace for Denbighshire. My sincerest condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Peter.”

Elizabeth Anne Silvers said she was “so totally saddened” by the news of Peter’s death.

She wrote: “Pete was a friend who always supported my music, recording at Music Mine Studios and putting me on several times at festivals.

“He always had time for me and shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for the music business.

“He was a kind, generous, passionate and big-hearted man, who had a vision for how music could make the world a better place.

“My heart goes out to his family. The world has lost a good man. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Phil Harrison descried Peter as a “true gentleman”, and called his death “absolutely tragic”, while Andy Cooper labelled it a “huge shame” and a “loss to the area’s music scene”.

Peter’s family’s statement added: “Dad will never ever be forgotten, and we will make sure we keep his memory alive.

“The family would like to thank everyone for all their kind words and support at this difficult time.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the crash, which happened on the southbound carriageway of the A483 between junctions four and three, involving a blue Ford Transit Connect car, and a heavy goods vehicle which was parked in a layby.

The emergency services attended, but peter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Alun Jones, of North Wales Police’s Roads Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts very much remain with Mr Footitt’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

“We continue to appeal to anybody who may have been travelling along the A483 in the vicinity of Wrexham and who may have dash cam footage to contact us.”
